TAG Guidance

UKTAG prepares technical guidance designed to facilitate consistent implementation of the Water Framework Directive in the UK and to assist in developing a coordinated approach to implementation in the river basins shared between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The work to produce guidance is timetabled to enable the guidance to be used by the partner agencies of UKTAG in implementing the Directive or to contribute to the development of European guidance through the Common Implementation Strategy.

The production of TAG Guidance follows the main steps in the River Basin Management Planning process required by the WFD. For information about the relationship between the UKTAG guidance documents and the Articles of the WFD that describe the different steps of planning process, you can download the following document: Guidance Paper Notes

note icon You can access a complete list of guidance from the website.

The guidance documents include:

1. UK experts' submissions and working papers to European working groups,

Note: The views and suggested approaches outlined in these document may change in the light of discussions with experts from other Member States.

2. Guidance aimed at supporting implementation of the WFD in the UK.

Note: The guidance and working papers represent the latest thinking on how different aspects of the Directive can best be implemented. The Guidance papers are live documents, and will be reviewed in the light of experience, and where necessary revised.

The guidance documents, which you can download, are either:

1. Fully edited versions (FINAL); or

2. Technical working drafts, which have not yet been fully edited (PUBLIC WORKING PAPER).
