When will all of this happen?

River Basin Management Planning (RBMP) is an ongoing process with RBM Plans being reviewed and updated every six years.

The timetable for the delivery of the WFD for the first River Basin Planning cycle is listed below. All dates refer to the 22 December unless otherwise stated.

• By Dec 2003 WFD transposed to Member State Law Identify River Basin Districts and Competent Authorities
• By Dec 2004 Complete River Basin District Characterisation
• By Dec 2006 Monitoring Programmes operational
• By 2008 Full draft River Basin Management Plan for consultation
• By 2009 Final River Basin Management Plan complete
• By 2012 Programmes of Measures to be fully operational
• By 2015 Achieve environmental objectives
