How is monitoring being focused in response to characterisation?

All UK environment agencies have based their monitoring proposals on refined versions of the Article 5 characterisation results. This will ensure that monitoring will be targeted on the basis of identified risk to the water environment.

All the agencies will use information from surveillance monitoring to help classify those waterbodies that are not at risk of failing to achieve good status or of deterioration in status, as high or good.
